There are so many cool things to do in Los Angeles, but like many people who live and work in the City of Angels, I sometimes get stuck in my routine and forget to try them. But that was not the case earlier this week when I took advantage of a deal through Gilt City and learned to fly through the air like a circus performer on the Santa Monica Pier.
After the sun went down Wednesday night, I walked into my class at 6:30pm and listened intently to my instructor as he gave me a quick rundown of the verbal cues: “ready” (bend your knees) and “hep,” which in trapeze lingo, means jump! After that, my instructor helped me put on my harness and tightened it up so it felt like a girdle was wrapped around my waist.
During my two-hour lesson, I fearlessly jumped off the platform multiple times, screaming with glee as I flew through the air, high above the Pacific Ocean with the colorful lights of the Ferris wheel glowing in the background. I hung by my knees, tried back flips, and even managed to connect with my catcher (I missed the first time, but connected the second time around).
While I may not be ready for Cirque du Soleil, I loved the feeling of flying and I’ll take that rush of endorphins any day. Can’t wait to go back and fly!
