My journey from a News Reporter & Meteorologist, to Wellness Advocate

Hi everyone! I still get so many inquiries about my career transition from news reporter/meteorologist to wellness advocate, so I thought it was time to share a little life update with all of you.

Saying good bye to the news

Saying goodbye to my dream job at KTLA

I’m blessed to say I lived my dream of being an on-air reporter and meteorologist at KTLA in Los Angeles for ten amazing years. Every time I drove to the station, I remember looking forward to doing my job delivering the news and weather forecasts. I genuinely loved what I did. However, by year number nine, I started to experience burnout. I was going through a lot of personal stuff (lots of loss) and the grueling hours of waking up at 3am began catching up with me. I felt exhausted all the time, and almost like I was a zombie going through the motions of life, but not fully showing up. The excitement that I once felt turned into a sense of obligation. Instead of feeling like “I get to go to work,” I started to feel like, “I had to go to work.” Since I’ve always believed in filling your life with experiences that bring you joy, once my career stopped doing that, I knew it was time for a change.

I decided to place health over everything.

In pursuit of success, I had sacrificed my health, getting only about five to six hours of sleep per night. This took a toll on my health, which is and always will be my number one priority. I realized that no amount of exercise, healthy eating, or meditation could compensate for a lack of rest. At that time, my mother voiced her concern about my health, saying I looked like I had aged 20 years overnight. She urged me to get more sleep, saying that in typical “Liberté fashion, you’re burning the candle at both ends and it’s catching up with you.” Her keen observation was a wake-up call for me to start prioritizing my well-being.

Coping with personal losses

At that same time, life threw some difficult challenges my way. I lost my dad to ALS, I had to put my dog down (Shanti was my little girl for almost 13 years), followed by a close friend unexpectedly passing away, and, shortly after, my mom developed pancreatic cancer and died within a year of diagnosis. All of these losses within a span of just three years left a profound impact on me. I was numb, heartbroken and struggling mentally and emotionally. While I learned to live with the pain, I also learned that life is short and precious…and that led me down a path of reassessing my priorities.

Then I met Luis

Amidst the loss, life also brought love. I met Luis (my husband) while on a family trip, randomly on a plane from Paris to Los Angeles. We didn’t speak until hour number nine, but once we started talking, we couldn’t stop. Our connection blossomed into a beautiful marriage. This relationship has been a source of immense joy and stability in my life.

Embracing a healthier life

Now, I make sure to get at least eight hours of sleep per night, which has significantly improved my overall health and ability to show up fully in all aspects of life. Today, instead of news media, I focus my efforts on social media as a wellness/lifestyle content creator. I’ve been passionate about health my entire adult life (I have a Masters Degree in Public Health and I’m currently on the journey of becoming a Functional Medicine Health Coach). I love sharing information about wellness products and practices that have positively impacted my life.

Will I Return to News?

At this stage in my life, the demanding schedule of working full time as a reporter and meteorologist doesn’t align with my current priorities. However, I’ll never say never. 😉

I did enjoy crashing in on the weather weather wall last year…who knows, maybe I’ll be invited back to do it again!
