Farm Sanctuary, Acton

While there is no question that I love to travel, I also love being a tourist in my own city.  This weekend, I visited the Farm Sanctuary in Acton, which is located about 45 miles north from Downtown Los Angeles.  Since I’ve been going through some drama in my life (more on that at a later date), I really just wanted to be around animals with sweet souls to soothe my own.  Mission accomplished! By the time I was finished my 2 hour tour, I had given belly rubs to several pigs, hugged a couple of cows and rubbed the backside of a few very soft sheep.  If you love animals and live in Southern California, you should go!  You won’t be disappointed.

Bruno’s story is incredibly sad… thank goodness he was rescued!

Macy was loving her belly rub… so much that she snorted!

I learned that pigs sleep 18 hours a day!

This one snorted with delight, but kept her eyes closed during her belly rub

I didn’t catch this one’s name, but he didn’t mind me petting him while he was feasting on hay

From the Farm Sanctuary ABOUT page:

Farm Sanctuary
Farm Sanctuary was founded in 1986 to combat the abuses of factory farming and encourage a new awareness and understanding about farm animals. Today, Farm Sanctuary is the nation’s largest and most effective farm animal rescue and protection organization. We have rescued thousands of animals and cared for them at our sanctuaries in Watkins Glen, New York; Northern California (Orland); and the Los Angeles area. At Farm Sanctuary, these animals are our friends, not our food. We educate millions of people about their plight and the effects of factory farming on our health and environment. We advocate for laws and policies to prevent suffering and promote compassion, and we reach out to legislators and businesses to bring about institutional reforms.

Farm Sanctuary is committed to ending cruelty to farm animals and promoting compassionate vegan living through rescueeducation, and advocacy efforts. Please join us. A compassionate world begins with you!
