Miss Independent; Ladies, you have come a long way in the last 80 years!

Women were not a major part of the American labor force until the beginning of the 1940s, when the United States entered World War II. Since men were working on the front lines, an unprecedented number of women began working in factories, helping in the production of planes, tanks, and weapons. By 1945, nearly one out of every four married women worked outside the home. Fast forward to 2018 when nearly half of the U.S. labor force (47%) was comprised of women. Current data shows that women are now in control of $22 trillion and that number is growing.

Ladies, you have come a long way in the last 80 years 💪!

Women are now in control of a massive amount of wealth. Some have inherited money from family or a significant other, but most have earned their way by pure sacrifice, hard work, and intelligence.

I’m a single father who raised three children on my own since their mother died 10 years ago. I know exactly what it feels like to be the main caregiver. I had to employ two people to help me at home while I ran my financial firm. For those stay-at-home moms, the next time someone makes a remark claiming you don’t work, send them my way and I will give them my thoughts. Whether you work inside or outside the home, raising kids is hard work and I applaud you.

Growing up in Peru, I watched my mother run her own business. Her mother was an elementary school teacher and my great-grandmother was a school principal. At that time, it was almost unheard of for women to go to college, but for me, it was the norm. Today I see my own daughter working at our firm and soon she will be pursuing a Master’s degree. I’ve always encouraged her to pursue her dreams and independence. Whether it is financial, social, emotional, or psychological, being free and empowered is a beautiful thing.

There is nothing more attractive to a man than being with a woman who has control of her own thoughts, finances, and her career. I should clarify, being independent does not necessarily mean that you earn your own money, it means you always have a voice.
