I was lucky enough to visit Carnaval a few months ago on a trip to Lima, Peru. The country is close to my heart as my husband is originally from there. We visit a couple times a year and every time I go, I eat and/or drink something I’ve never had before…and it’s always delicious. In case you don’t know, Lima is considered the culinary capital of South America. While it’s a foodie’s paradise, there’s also a good bar scene; and Carnaval is at the top of the list. Trust me, it’s not just a bar, it’s an experience, and ranked among the top 50 bars worldwide.

Carnaval’s most iconic cocktail shares a name with the bar itself – the iconic Carnaval (cocktail) is described as “a party wherever you go.”  This was translated into English from the original Spanish description “es una fiesta a donde vaya.”

The cocktail is made with Beefeater 24, green pineapple chartreuse, Creole lemon, and witbier beer.  At first glance, you instantly understand why the drink is described as a party since it emerges out of a smoke-filled lantern.  Then you take a sip, and all of a sudden, this bright and vibrant cocktail becomes an experience you can taste, radiating with a multitude of balanced flavors that serve to capture your attention.
