My Top Five Condiments That Add Flavor Without Adding Extra Fat, Calories And Sodium

For this week’s #WednesdayWellness live stream, Brett Hoebel and I talked about how to add flavor to your food without adding a lot of fat, calories and sodium. Here is a full list of items that we use on a daily basis.  Let me know if you switch to these healthier options and whether they’ve helped you as much as they’ve helped me!

Delicious Creamy Garlic – This really is delicious! It kicks up the taste on everything from raw veggies to stir-fry. For one serving size (1 teaspoon), you get a LOT of flavor and only 30 calories and 3.5 gm of fat. Yes, you will have garlic breath, but it’s worth it 🙂

Bragg Nutritional Yeast Seasoning – If you love cheese – and who doesn’t? – this is a great substitute. I love adding it to soups and steamed veggies or stir-fry. Many vegans use this to make vegan cheese sauce or vegan caesar dressing.

Coconut Secret Organic Raw Coconut Aminos Soy-Free Seasoning – This has saved me from over-indulging on salt. I use it instead of soy sauce because it’s a lot lower in sodium without compromising the taste.  Did you know that there is 700-900mg of sodium per serving (1 teaspoon) in regular soy sauce?! One serving (1 teaspoon) of Coconut Aminos has 90mg of sodium.

So Delicious Coconut Milk Coffee Creamer – I’m a BIG coffee drinker but I don’t like to drink it black. Adding milk doesn’t give it the same consistency as cream, so as a healthier alternative, I like to use So Delicious Coconut Milk Coffee Creamer.  Try it… your taste buds will thank me.

Greek Yogurt – I love yogurt, but Greek yogurt is higher in protein and creamier than the regular stuff.  It’s a great substitute in recipes that call for heavy cream.

As we showed during the FB live, we used Greek yogurt instead of coconut cream to make a peanut satay sauce.  The original recipe is from Brett’s book, Brett Hoebel’s 20 Minute Body and shown below.  Note, instead of reduced sodium soy, I used 1 tablespoon of Coconut Aminos which are listed above.
